Sweater Weather

It's Fall Y'all!

Fall in the South finally hits in October. August is such a sweltering, sticky mess the day September hits it feels like we should whip out our sweaters, boots, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes. But unfortunately, it just doesn’t work like that down here. Now I must say here in North Carolina I truly think we have the best four-season weather in the country. Further south is just too warm and no snow, and into Virginia, it’s too much snow! In New England, it’s six months winter, and out west you just don’t have the greenery we have and the spectacular leaf change, especially along the Blueridge Parkway. But sweater weather REALLY doesn’t hit until October around here. We did get a nice break for about a week in early September, but then two weeks in the 80’s and 90’s 🙁 Speaking of sweaters, I’m obsessed with Target sweaters and cardigans. I think cardigans are the ultimate in mom fashion, as they can be layered with jeans, skirts, and yoga pants and when the weather is still a bit back and forth it’s nice to be able to rip it off when it ends up hitting 80 degrees after being 46 in the morning. I love this cardigan for its length, pockets, and color selection!

Pumpkin Patches, Festivals, and Football

After hiding in the AC all summer I’m antsy to get outside, especially with a VERY active two-year-old! We live in a historic neighborhood near downtown. There are endless festivities both downtown and nearby in our city park. Our downtown is still up and coming and not much activity, but the town really does know how to party when it comes to both old and new festivals. We’re even lucky enough to walk and bike to get to them in such beautiful weather and tree-lined streets. There’s a really fun pumpkin patch about 15 minutes from us out in the country. We took Chewy last year when he was a year old and it was SO. MUCH. FUN. We hope to go again soon once we find the time!

Football

Football is really big in our house. Not by me, but my husband and now Chewy is a fan. He runs around and cheers when daddy does. Luckily, I work all day on Sundays and don’t have to see a single game…on Sunday’s anyways. My husband also makes it to a lot of the NC State home games, his alma mater. I don’t mind a bit of football here and there because it is a bit sentimental growing up with my dad watching it, AND of course associating it with Fall. I was also in high school marching band and made it to every Friday night football game. I still don’t understand all the rules, but those were some fun times! Here’s a cute NC State toddler jersey. Chewy of course has a couple to cheer on his team.

  1. I love Cat and Jack clothes! We’re in Canada, therefore, no Target. But when we get the chance, it’s only an hour and a half to the nearest USA town with one, so we stock up.

    • Oh man, weren’t they up there a few years ago then left? I would have been devastated! Glad you’re close enough to get your fix though. What part of Canada are you in? I visited my bestie in Buffalo last year and it was so cool to be so close and check out the Canadian side of Niagra. I’m hoping next time we make a visit up there to stay a couple nights in Toronto.

  2. I love those long sweaters too! Enough to keep the chill out but not too hot!
I’m quite jealous of your pumpkin patch, I am Australian but lived in the states for several years. Unfortunately I never managed to get to a pumpkin patch! Enjoy the season x

    • Oh no, no pumpkins! Def take advantage next time you have a chance to visit 🙂 I’m still dreaming of the day I can make a visit out to Australia and enjoy your unique festivities!

  3. I LOVE Target. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gone in there for one thing and have come out a with a shopping cart full of items. Literally all of my favorite furniture is from there! Those cardigans look so cozy and perfect for fall!

  4. What cutie pies! 🙂 I wish my kids were that little so I could dress them up in those adorable clothes Target has now. And I absolutely love this time of year! I went into Target a few weeks ago to go shopping and I love how they re-designed their clothing, shoes and accessories. It’s more like a department store. I’m not one to go bold with colors but the Fall colors on the outfits now are really nice. If I wasn’t wearing scrubs to work everyday, I’d be layering my clothing with a cardigan.

    • Love how Target keeps everything new and fresh! I definitely feel you on the wearing scrubs every day. I worked as a full-time CNA a few years ago and missed dressing up! Layer when you can and enjoy on your days off 🙂

  5. I’m in NC too but closer to the coast. We are LOVING the fall weather!! Target has some great cardigans and I own a few…they are some of my favorites along with cardigans from Cents of Style! Hope you have a great day!

    • Oooh, I LOVE the NC coast 🙂 Try to get out there at least once or twice a year. I lived in Wilmington for a year when I was young and single, all the way back in 2004! I haven’t heard of Cents of Style, I’ll check it out!
